Started on the Sat. 17th, finished friday 23rd. Sat. was only a test plot, and didn't start until 4pm on sunday. All just north of Muncie. Hopefully it pays off. I'm a little nervous about it after the beggining of this week, but now that…

Am I the only one who waited for warmer dirt and more moisture before planting corn?  A few around us are done w/corn, and most are over half done,  some - like me - just have a good start.  How is everyone else getting along?

Profile Information

Please describe your role in agriculture.
Heather and I were both raised on family farms. I still help my dad on his grain / livestock farm, but not as much as he helps me trying to get myself established as a full-time farmer. Heather, Linc (6), Grant (4), and I make hay, feed pigs & cattle, and do some row-crop farming . Almost all of the hay is for the horse market, with some for my own cattle. We focus on small square bales - delivered. We contract feed 4000 hogs for Indiana Packers. I raise Holstein and beef cross bucket calves to finish weight to sell at our local stockyard.

Hey John...we haven't heard from you in a while. We hope you and your family are doing well. How did your hay season turn out this year? Have you had enough rain for fall harvest?? It's been tough getting the crops out around here with all the rain. Conference is coming up soon...we hope to make it again this year. Are you and your family planning on attending this year? Hope this message finds you all well. Happy Holidays!

Hey John...How are things going for you? Andy finished his first cutting on July 3rd and started 2nd cutting on July 5th. Though it seemed like it took him forever to finish first cutting he made over 5000 small squares and over 30 round bales off of first cutting. He's well into 2nd cutting now and is going to be cutting wheat and baling straw for the next couple of weeks as well. Hope everything is going great for you too!

Hey John..Andy did just over 1100 small squares in the last two days. He's about 75% done with his first cutting now. He has 4 fields left which is about 53 acres. He hopes to get it all picked up in small squares but round bales will be a last option. Hope you and your family are doing really well and enjoying your summer. Keep us filled in on your progress! Have a great day!

Andy is not even close to being done with first cutting! He can't get a break from all the rain! He cut three fields last night because the news said there was going to be 7 days of clear weather....we got two inches of rain last night. Are you all through with first cutting?

Hi John....I'm sorry but I don't have any extra hay to sell. I'm pretty low too! If one of my customers backs out or decides they don't need as much as they expected I'll let you know. Sorry I couldn't help right now. - Andy Guse

Hi John...sorry it has taken so long...I just logged on today. Andy is at the Farm show in Louisville but I'll ask him tonight when he gets home about the hay!
